Color Explosion- Shaving Cream

We did a Color Explosion Experiment earlier that you can see HERE with oil this is the same concept just with shaving cream this time

The kids enjoyed droping different colors and waiting to see them explode through the layer of shaving cream

The shaving cream in the end was its own project the kids swirled the colors around

Sensory Table- Iceberg Melting

Kaia decided to take the big block out of the water and add salt to see if that would make it melt faster

Favor Tin Magnet Exploration

I made a fun magnet game that is perfect for preschoolers. I put items that were both magnetic and non-magnetic in different tins. The tins themselves are not magnetic so they do not interfere with the items inside.
My kids love this game. Kaia made her own rules so items that are not magnetic go face down and items that are stay face up.
I love that you can see inside and the magnetic wand shows the movement of magnetic items within. Some people use muffin tins to store this game but I found that it interfered to much so I prefer a bin or basket to house this game instead.
You can find these tins in the wedding favor aisle at Michael's Craft Store make sure to save the Sunday coupon.

Here is a list of items I put in the tins:
embroidery floss
Dice
colorful paperclips
iron nuggets
pencil grip
fiber fill (stuffing)
metal washers
easter grass
plastic stones
shells
metal balls
metal clips
foam pieces
magnetic barbel
metal keychain
colorful metal ball
glass stone
metal wall clip
metal nuts
colorful metal chips
metal butterfly clip
jingle bells
counting bear
metal screw

I hot glued each container shut. It was not easy you have to work quickly and be careful there is not much room for glue.

Silly Putty/ Slime

Ingredients:
1 cup school glue
1 cup liquid starch
Food coloring optional

Directions:
Combine and enjoy. If the mixture starts getting sticky add more starch. keep in an airtight container.

** Use strawberry baskets, spoons, be creative
** We made a batch of blue and a batch of yellow so when we mixed them they would turn green

Sensory Table- Sink or Float

the kids collected things from around the house and backyard.
There only instructions were to pick something and say if they think it will sink or float. I logged their perdictions and then we took everything to the water table to see if their perdictions were correct.
They tested all the items and were mostly right
they used their magnifying glasses both while observing the items to see if they sank or float and also while choosing their items and making their hypothesis.
This was a lot of fun the kids enjoyed it and want to do it again. It was interesting to see their reactions when things did not go as planed (i.e. they predicted this would float but it did not) they both would inspect the item and try and decide why it did not do as they had thought.

Science- Slime Baskets

This is a variation to the borax/ glue slime that everyone makes I wanted it to fall through the baskets slowly and keep the runny consistency even after cooling so this is the recipe I came up with.

Making a Light Box

Here are the Materials Needed:
light strand or a florescent light fixture
drill
duct tape
and plastic tote

For this project Iwas making the light box for an Imaginary Play station Vet set up so I added a clothespin and hanging element.

Make sure you use a light strand that does not give off a lot of heat I also drilled holes in the side for air flow.

For the museum I will be using the light box as well but laying it on down and adding color paddles etc.

Fine Motor- Eye Dropper Ice Trays

Materials Needed:
Water
Food Coloring
Ice Tray
Eye Dropper

Directions:
1. create colored water
2. Explain it is their job to drop one or two drops in each reservoir
3. After they are done filling the tray they can then suck the water back up and put it back in the holding container





Variation:
Don't have super cool ice trays like me (I think they were 99 cents at Ikea)
no problem!
all you need is a baking pan, wax paper, and a sharpie

You can be even more creative with this I dotted out Kaia's name. You could make a picture or just dots its up to you!
